Residential Life
The Fessenden School is a remarkable place to learn and grow and live, for both the students and the teachers. The strength of the school relies on the dedication of its faculty, the character of its students, and an insistence on the highest standards for its residential program. Fessenden is able to maintain itself as an excellent academic institution—one that cares about the timeless traditions and values established by the school's founders—yet run itself like a family that has adapted thoroughly to the new millennium.

There are over sixty adults in thirty-eight separate homes or apartments on campus. Our boarding student/residential faculty ratio is less than two to one. At our family-style dinners in the evening, we have at least one residential family at each dining table. The more than thirty faculty children living on campus, ranging in age from toddler to Fessenden-age and older, are an important part of dorm life on Fessenden's campus. The boarding boys are their "big brothers." Imagine growing up with a choice of nearly one hundred big brothers to play with every day! In addition, to help ease the transition to Fessenden, the school pairs new students and their families with a local family through the Welcome Family Program.

At the same time our boarders are learning to live with and understand other young men of different ages, cultures, and backgrounds. Our boarding population is comprised of boys from many different states and countries. The richness of this experience, and its lasting impact, cannot be overestimated. Not many of us have the opportunity to forge firm friendships with people from all over the world, friendships that can endure across a lifetime.

The growth that we see in each boy is incredible and I don't just mean the physical growth, sometimes three to four inches, we witness as each year ends. Some boys become meticulously organized. Others become more outgoing and more willing to share. Most establish a new level of maturity and self-confidence. Fessenden provides a memorable boarding experience for 5-day boarders and 7-day boarders with an unparalleled choice of 18-25 weekend program activities each weekend. The residential program at Fessenden fosters achievement, esteem, poise and responsibility.

BRINGING OUT THE BEST IN BOYS

"THE BEST" IS THE BOND OF FRIENDSHIP THAT BEGINS AT A YOUNG AGE AND LASTS A LIFETIME. IT IS THE SCHOOL THAT DOES NOT FEEL LIKE HOME, BUT RATHER IS HOME.
