Varsity Basketball Competes Well at Tournament in NYC

1/19/2015
Fessenden falls in the semi-final game to take third place in this highly competitive event.

Fessenden's Varsity Basketball team traveled to New York City to compete for the second straight year in the Future Stars Boys' Club Tournament in Harlem. Once again, the Bears came away with a 3rd place finish in this highly competitive tournament.

Fessenden's opening game may have been their best as they battled the eventual champions Rectory right to the brink, but couldn't close the deal, losing 38-33 in a tough defensive battle. The Bears bounced right back, winning a close game against much improved Eaglebrook team. They worked their way back to the semi-final game against the defending champions from Hillside. What was a close game early on got away from Fessenden as Hillside's athletic squad and tight defensive pressure on a very small court proved too much for us down the stretch. Rectory went on to defeat Hillside in the finals, so there was sense of accomplishment about how we played against the championship team. There was also a feeling of hope and anticipation for a better outcome as we will host Rectory in our final game of the season in February.

Special thanks to the many parents, relatives, and friends who made the trip to NYC to support us on Saturday. It was very much appreciated.

Pete Sanderson has been the Director Of Athletics and Chair of the Physical Education Department at Fessenden for 26 years. He is the Varsity Basketball coach and a member of the residential faculty.
