Squash and Tennis Academy

Fessenden offers private lessons, clinics, and camps throughout the year for players of all levels, whether new, developing, or competitive. Squash programs are held year-round in the Roberts Family Squash Center, our brand new, state-of-the art facility, housing five international squash courts. Tennis programs are hosted at Fessenden in the spring, summer, and fall and at MIT in the winter.

Meet the Pros
Randy Coplin
Randy oversees the lessons, clinics, and camps that operate out of the Roberts Family Squash Center. Randy is a Boston native and has been very active in the squash community as a player and coach for over 10 years. He has worked with many players of all ages and levels, from beginner to those that are nationally ranked. A former player at Connecticut College, he has coached in varsity programs, such as St. Mark’s School and Phillips Academy. With his extensive athletic background, Randy lives and strives to inspire, mentor, and develop players to their greatest potential in the game of squash.

Private Lesson Fee: $65 (30 minute lesson); $80 (45 minute lesson)

Shahid Zaman Khan
Shahid Zaman Khan brings extensive competitive and coaching experience to Fessenden. He is a former professional squash player, having competed at the highest levels and ranking as high as #14 in the world. He is a six-time Pakistan National Champion and a former Asian Junior and Senior Squash Champion. Shahid has coached in programs in countries around the world, including Pakistan, India, and Malaysia. Shahid has been coaching for the past eight years in the Boston area, where he lives with his wife and three boys.

Private Lesson Fee: $100 (45 minute session); $150 (60 minute session)

Upcoming Clinics, Camps, and Programs
Fessenden’s Junior Squash Academy is now offering squash clinics for all ages and skill levels on Sundays, starting September 16, at the following time:
  • Beginner/Intermediate Clinic: 10:00–11:00 a.m.
  • The Fessenden School will be hosting its' first squash tournament on November 9, 2018. Please sign up through the US Squash website.
These clinics are for both Fessenden and non-Fessenden students of all playing abilities. To secure a spot in the desired squash clinic, please contact Randy Coplin, Director of Fessenden’s Junior Squash Academy. Clinics will run as long as there are at least three sign-ups per clinic. You may register weekly or a month at a time.

Meet the Pro

Karen Naylor-Riobueno
Karen is a USPTR-certified Professional level teacher and coach with over 30 years of playing and teaching experience. As a Junior player, she was National Champion in Venezuela several years in a row and holds titles in international tournaments in both singles and doubles. As a teaching pro, Karen has coached children and adults at Longwood Cricket Club and the Mount Auburn Club, in addition to coaching at the intercollegiate level at Simmons College for 13 years. In 2012 and 2017, she was named Coach of the Year for the Eastern Independent League and currently serves on the Collegiate Committee for the USTA. Karen has been the Director of the Fessenden Tennis Academy for over 20 years. Karen received a Masters from Simmons College.
