A competitive program for grades 7-9. Tryouts will determine a limited roster of up to 8 players. Practice and play will take place on local courses with Leo J. Martin Memorial being the primary course. A schedule of 4-6 matches will take place against other local private schools in the area.
The Fessenden golf team faced a difficult task yesterday in playing a Dexter team of significantly older members. While the final score was not close, many of the Fessenden players handled themselves well during the afternoon. The Fessenden roster yesterday was comprised of all 7th and 8th graders, while many of the opponents from Dexter were high schoolers - even a few seniors. Dylan L. was the lone player to manage a tie in his match. Brian L., Andrew V., Cooper S., Oscar Z. and Claude S. gave it their all and hit some solid shots in their matches. They should all be proud of their efforts on the course yesterday, and hopefully the team learned some lessons of competing against strong competition!
On a cold and breezy day at Ponkapoag GC in Canton, the Fessenden golf team met the squad from St. Sebastian's. The start was positive, as our top two players (Brian L. and Dylan L.) put two points on the board by winning their matches. However, the St. Sebabstian's players took the final four matches to claim the victory 4-2. Despite the loss, it was a fun experience for all of the boys playing in the match!
The golf team returned to Rectory with several different players and emerged with a 4-2 victory. Winning their matches were Brian L, Andrew V, Oscar Z, and Aidan H. Several of these matches came down to the final hole, where where our players stayed focused to win the hole and the match. Dylan L and Claude S played will but were not able to prevail in their individual matches. The attached photo shows Oscar and Claude, who both played in their first match for Fessenden. Despite only one of them winning, it is fantastic that both boys have huge smiles on their faces, as they both had fun regardless of the outcome!
The golf team traveled to the Connecticut National Golf Club to face Rectory in their first match of the season. We were fortunate to have a beautiful day and the team played very well and was able to secure a 4.5 - 1.5 victory. Brian L. and Dylan L. were the first players on the course and they set the tone by closing out their opponents by the 8th hole. Cooper S. and Andrew V. then added to the Fessenden lead by winning their close matches. Cooper came through in the clutch, as he won the last two holes to complete his comeback. Andrew also won the final hole to claim his match. Isaac K. played well but suffered the loss in his match and Aidan H. was able to tie his match and secure a half point for the team. It was a successful start to the season and I am proud of the way the team handled themselves on the course!
