The team came together throughout the week leading up to the tournament to put together a great 52nd edition of the Fessenden Wrestling Tournament. 

In terms of results, we had:
As a team we finished in 6th place overall.
In their brackets they finished:
Alex A - 3rd place
Warren J - 4th place
Kino L - 4th place
Quincy G - 4th place
Roman B - 4th place

Aaron Z was selected as the 9th Grade Team Leader in terms of Sportsmanship and Spirit.

We had a few wins in this one, but the matchups were tough for our guys at Fenn. We nevertheless had some very positive moments and it was a learning experience for the team.

The Fessy boys entered the mat with grit and wrestled hard against an experienced and disciplined Roxbury Latin team. We took 8 wins and will continue to focus on defense from the bottom position.

The Fessy boys were focused and ready to wrestle after a strong reset on Monday in practice. The BC High squad, a team we knew little about, arrived at 3:15pm and Coach Davey put together a great line-up in the moments leading up to the start of the day. Each of our healthy wrestlers got at least one match vs a BC High opponent. It was a bit of a streaky match as the majority of our youngest wrestlers faced opponents that were a year or two older. Nevertheless, they set a good tone with their grit and discipline. We had a particularly strong finish winning 10 of the last 12 matches (many by pin).

It was a short day of wrestling with only 8 matches. We had a good week of practice, but got away from some of the fundamentals that have been key to our success and program so far this year. We will get back to the mat to keep training and improving on Monday. We have two good matches on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Here is the link to the match.

We had a good showing on Wednesday, 2/1 in Southborough against Fay and Nobles. Similar to our program, both teams brought intensity and some quality technical skills to the match. We look forward to seeing both groups at the Fessy Tournament at the end of February.

While we don't actually tally a team score in the traditional sense, we had a great showing against a tough BH team. We line up good matches to the best of our ability based on weight, age, and experience. BH has a very strong tradition in wrestling and they offer us tough competition. In total, we had 23 bouts on the day and we came away with 12 wins. Most importantly good sportsmanship was demonstrated and our boys stayed positive and encouraging throughout the day.

On Wednesday, 1/18, we headed over to Belmont Day School for a tri-match which also included Fenn School. We faced tough competition that by-and-large had more mat experience than our team. Nevertheless, the boys wrestled tough. We had an exciting overtime win from Kino and two pins from Jack D in both of his matches. A few guys wrestled two matches, like Kino, and it was inspiring to see them rebound from losses to achieve a win in their next match. We will continue to emphasize the foundational skills that we have been working on since day one, while also focusing on building our skills and adding technical elements from all starting positions.

This was a great day and tremendous experience for the team. Our boys showed camaraderie, sportsmanship, and grit from the start to the finish.

In the 5th - 7th Grade Division of the tournament we had boys finish in the following places in their weight classes:

In the 8th & 9th Grade Division of the tournament we had boys finish in the following places in their weight classes:

Lyon Juhas (3rd Place)

The atmosphere in the wrestling room was electric on Wednesday afternoon. Fay arrived with roughly 30 members on their wrestling team. Our numbers were a bit lower than normal due to some unfortunate illnesses, but this gave most of our boys the opportunity to wrestle in two matches. A big group of parent supporters was present and we had a large group of Upper and Middle School students and faculty that stopped by throughout the match to support the team. 

In the 26 matches on the day, we came out on top 19 times. We had 11 wins by pin and 8 wins by points.

On Friday, 1/6, the Bears hosted the Arrows in our first home match of the season. On two days of practice since the break, the Fessy boys showed some good energy, enthusiasm, and fundamentals. We had 20 matches on the day, which are broken down in the numbers below.
5 were intersquad matches: Fessy v Fessy
15 were interscholastic matches: Fessy v St. Sebs - We won 5 matches and lost 10.  Three of the five matches that we won were by pin, two were won by points. Five of the 10 matches that we lost were by pin, five were lost by points.

We had 15 matches with Fessy boys competing. We saw some great energy, toughness, and boys showed good technique in their pursuit of the pinning combination moves that we have practiced: the half-nelson and a cross-face cradle. This was a good start to the season and we are proud to have had some successes before the Winter Break. We look forward to a step-up in commitment and competition in January.
