As we speed toward the end of February, I write to share the news of an administrative appointment at Fessenden. Katie Charner-Laird will join our community as Head of Lower School beginning July 1, 2020.
Katie will come to Fessenden having served ten years as Principal of the Cambridgeport School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Prior to her years leading Cambridgeport, Katie served as Principal of Lincoln-Eliot School in Newton. Before assuming these administrative leadership roles, Katie was an elementary level literacy coach and classroom teacher. In all, she has dedicated her last 25 years to elementary education. Katie is a graduate of Swarthmore College with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Anthropology. She holds a Master in Education from the University of California Berkeley and a Master in Education in School Leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Most importantly, Katie is a dedicated, proven elementary level teacher and administrator who is excited to join our community and immerse herself with Fessy students, parents, faculty, and staff.
We are fortunate that Katie will be joining us. She is a talented leader and a caring educator. In the years ahead, she will lead our Lower School in new and exciting directions while maintaining the core of what Fessy values. Please join me in welcoming Katie to Fessenden.
