Varsity Basketball Falls In An Exciting Close Game To Rectory

Pete Sanderson
The Varsity Basketball team made the long trip down to Putnam CT on Friday to take on a powerful Rectory School squad.  This game was a battle from start to finish with two talented teams trading baskets and tough defensive play.  Fessy dug deep against a massive Rectory front line and strong guard play to take a 30-28 lead at halftime…..and actually extended that lead to 6 to begin the second half…..But Rectory’s size down low eventually took over and they went on an extended run to open up a 12 point lead…..but as they have done all year, the Bears would not quit and battled back until the final buzzer, falling for only the second time this season 72-67.  Nigel J. had another impressive effort scoring on an array of inside and outside shots for 27 points…..while Alex E. chipped in 15 points and tough defensive effort throughout.  Borja H. is commended for his gallant defensive efforts on Rectory’s 6’ 7” big man all game long.

The team will finally return to Fessy for two home games this week against Catholic Memorial and Fay.
