St Sebs 9th grade team had some size, strength, and age advantages over us. They controlled the ball for the first 4 minutes of the game and held a 3-0 lead. Undeterred, once we finally got the ball into the offensive zone Gabe M finished a tough dodge by getting to the island and finishing low. Eventually we tied the game at 3-3 and from there it was a back and forth, "punch for punch" game until half time. St Sebs led on the scoreboard 10-9 at half time.
Our guys regrouped at half time, made some adjustments and the emphasis was on playing fearlessly, playing full speed, and staying together as a team. Defensively we allowed only one goal in the second half, which occurred at the final buzzer. We showed good poise and toughness on the offensive end, ran through checks, made the extra pass and fought hard on the loose balls.
Game ball went to Rory F for making "heads-up" plays in key moments of the game. Fighting hard to get to the front of the goal in transition to finish his shots. He also cleared the ball with grit and ran time off the clock in the final minutes.
