How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in applying to The Fessenden School. Our application timelines and requirements vary slightly by program. Please select from the following options to learn the details of the application process.

Grade-Specific Guidelines

  • Grades 5-8 Day Students (We do not accept applications for Grade 9 day students.)

    1. Parents of day candidates for Grades 5 through 8 should submit an online inquiry form and call the admissions office at (617) 630-2300 to schedule a campus visit for parent(s) and candidate. After the campus tour, a member of the admissions team will interview the candidate and meet with parents separately to answer any additional questions. Please allow two hours for your time on campus. Campus visits begin after October 14th.

    2. Submit online application with $50 application fee (required and due by February 1st).

    3. Submit the Transcript Release Form to your child’s current school so they can forward transcripts for current and prior year (required and due by February 1st).

    4. On or about December 1st, provide current teachers with the AISNE student evaluation form(s): Grade 5: Form for Grade 5 Candidates; Grades 6-8: English evaluation form and Math evaluation form) and a pre-addressed and stamped envelope to “The Fessenden School.” AISNE form(s) are confidential and should be returned directly to the admissions office by the current school (required and due by February 1st).

    5. Candidates will be required to take the ISEE or SSAT. Results must be submitted by February 1st.

    6. Candidates for Grades 5 and 6 are required to attend the Middle School re-visit day which is held on a Saturday in early February. This two hour visit includes an academic assessment and group activities. Dress code is sweatpants, t-shirts and sneakers. Please note that the most up-to-date event information is listed on the calendar on the Admissions Events page. There is no re-visit day for Grades 7-8 candidates.

    7. To be considered for financial assistance, please submit your application and supporting documentation by February 1st.
    Once all of the above steps are taken, the candidate’s application is considered complete. The Admissions Committee will review completed applications after February 1st, and a decision will be sent to families in writing on March 10.

    Applications completed after February 1 will be considered on a rolling basis based on availability. Please contact Admissions for more information about availability and the second round admissions process. Please note that to be fair to all candidates, applications received after the February 1 deadline will be considered only after initial decisions are made on March 10. 
  • Grades 5-9 Domestic Boarding Students

    Boarding applications are considered on a rolling basis. However, if you would like to be considered by financial assistance applications must be completed by February 1.

    Five-Day and Seven-Day Boarding Options Available for Domestic Boarding Students.

    1. Parents submit an online inquiry form and call the admissions office at (617) 630-2300 to schedule a campus visit for parent(s) and candidate. After the campus tour, a member of the admissions team will interview the candidate and meet with parents separately to answer any additional questions. Please allow three hours for your time on campus. Campus visits begin in September.

    2. Submit online application with $50 application fee. Boarding applications are accepted on a “rolling” basis, meaning there are no formal deadlines. However, we suggest applications be submitted as early as possible since there are a limited number of boarding spaces available.

    3. Submit the Transcript Release Form to your child’s current school so they can forward transcripts for current and prior year.

    4. Provide current teachers both the student English evaluation form and the student Math evaluation form and a pre-addressed and stamped envelope to “The Fessenden School.” AISNE form(s) are confidential and should be returned directly to the admissions office by the current school.

    5. Candidates are required to submit either the WISC-IV, ISEE or SSAT.

    6. To be considered for financial assistance, please submit your application and supporting documentation by February 1st.
    Once all of the above steps are taken, the candidate’s application is considered complete. The Admissions Committee will review completed applications and a decision will be sent to families in writing.
  • Grades 5-9 International Boarding Students

    Seven-Day Boarding Only

    First round of international applications are due December 15 and decisions are made by January 15. If you would like to be considered for the second round of international applications, please contact our admissions office for deadline information. Also, space availability in Grades 8 and 9 is often limited, so please contact us before starting the application process for those grades.

    1. Parents submit an online inquiry form and call the admissions office at (617) 630-2300 to schedule a campus visit for parent(s) and candidate. After the campus tour, a member of the admissions team will interview the candidate and meet with parents separately to answer any additional questions. Please allow three hours for your time on campus. An English language assessment is included during this campus visit. Campus visits begin in September.

    2. Submit online application and the $100 application fee.

    3. Submit the Transcript Release Form to current school so they may forward previous and current year school transcripts.

    4. Candidates are required to submit the results of the TOEFL Jr. If a WISC-IV, SSAT or ISEE is available as supplemental information, we welcome their submission.
       
    5. Provide current teachers both the student English evaluation form and the student Math evaluation form which should be emailed to admissions@fessenden.org, or faxed to 617-630-2303. AISNE form(s) are confidential and should be returned directly to the admissions office by the current school.
