The Experience

Upper School: Grades 7-9

Who is the Fessenden Upper School student? He eagerly accepts new responsibilities and actively seeks ways to give back. He mentors younger students. He asks questions and pushes himself intellectually, unafraid of failure because he knows it ultimately leads to success.

In the Upper School (Grades 7, 8, and 9), boarding and day students come into their own as scholars, athletes, artists, and young men who contribute to a world beyond the four walls of the classroom. Upperclassmen are given increased privileges and leadership opportunities; and, while they earn these with signs of maturity, the opportunities are also catalysts for it.

With an average class size of 12, a 1:1 laptop program, and an increased variety of electives, clubs, and athletic offerings, the Upper School experience is designed to allow boys to stretch academically, physically, and emotionally while preparing for life beyond Fessenden. Teachers, coaches, advisors, residential staff, placement professionals, and parents work as a team to help ensure every boy is striving for his best and is prepared for continued academic success.

When the Upper School student is ready to graduate, he packs his art canvases and athletic trophies next to his self-confidence and love of learning. With a fully prepared mind, body, and heart, he’s ready to succeed at the country’s finest secondary schools and universities—and beyond.
