Fessenden Announces Next Head of Lower School

A Message From Head of School Steve Armstrong
I am pleased to share the news of an administrative appointment at Fessenden. Marcie Howard will become Fessenden’s Head of Lower School beginning July 1, 2022.
Marcie has taught elementary-age children for more than 20 years, and she is in her tenth year teaching second grade at Fessenden. All the boys who have come through her doors have benefited from her genuine and thoughtful approach to teaching—highlighted by the project-based learning unit on heroes, a hallmark of second grade at Fessenden. During her time here, Marcie has been the recipient of the Wheeler Family Award in 2015 and the Rita Edelman Prize in 2019. Both awards are focused on demonstrating the impact of and cultivating the School’s core values of honesty, compassion, and respect in students. Marcie has a Bachelor of Science in Human Development with a Concentration in Early Childhood Education (Pre-K-3) with Focus on Inclusion from Wheelock College, as well as a Master of Arts in Child Development from Tufts University. Marcie is also a member of the residential life program as a dorm parent with her husband, Eric. They are the parents of two Fessy boys, Ben ’21 and Phin ’23.
We are fortunate to have Marcie transitioning into this important Lower School role at Fessenden. She is a positive, talented, and caring educator. Please join me in congratulating Marcie on her appointment.
